What are the benefits of Digital X-rays?

Digital Dental Radiology utilizes electronic sensors instead of film to receive images generated by x-ray exposure. They can reduce radiation exposure by 80 to 90% over traditional x-ray film. The images produced are more flexible, in that brightness, contrast and image size can be adjusted so that patients can better see diagnosed problems or decay.

Digital X-rays do not require chemical processing so they can be viewed within 3 seconds of exposure. If referral to a specialist is necessary, a high quality image of the X-ray can be printed and many offices can now accept X-rays via e-mail. This eliminates the problems frequently encountered with poor quality duplicate x-rays. Digital X-rays do not degrade over time the way that film can.
