What to do if your permanent tooth is knocked out

Find the tooth and rinse it gently with water or milk. Hold the tooth by the crown to avoid damaging the root. Do not scrub the tooth or use soap. If possible, try to replace the tooth in the socket and hold in place with guaze or a wash clothe. If you cannot replace the tooth, then place the tooth in (in order of preference) Hanks Balanced Salt Solution, cold milk or saline. Contact your pediatric dentist immediately. The faster you act, the great the chance of saving the tooth.
